Newsweek Magazine in Collaboration with Best Practice Institute Recognizes The Wistar Institute in 2025 ‘Excellence Index’
PHILADELPHIA — (December 20th, 2024) — In its annual Excellence Index, Newsweek and the Best Practice Institute have recognized The Wistar Institute as one of the world’s top 1000 companies. Wistar led the way as the top-ranked company in the Healthcare and Hospital sector in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Wistar ranked 12th) and 575th in the overall ranking of all business sector categories.
“I am exceptionally proud of everything the Wistar team has achieved, especially in the past year, which has been a time of unprecedented growth and successes. Honors such as this confirm that Wistar’s commitment to excellence and collaboration distinguish us,” said president and CEO, Dario Altieri, M.D. “This recognition of the vital work we do at Wistar is a vote of confidence in our mission. Wistar is proud to be a leader in basic biomedical research, education, and training both globally and here in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”
The honor for Wistar comes at the end of a year of exceptional growth, including the launch of the new HIV Cure and Viral Diseases Center; the beginning of construction for the new Center for Advanced Therapeutics; and the expansion of the Institute beyond its original footprint through the signing of a lease at 3675 Market Street for additional laboratory and office space. The Wistar Institute also concludes the year with a successful record-breaking Bold Science Global Impact campaign.
Since 2023, Newsweek’s Excellence Index has considered companies from around the world across more than 25 industries that are “leading the way.” Their methodology identified the top 1000 from an initial list of more than 25,0000 companies. Quantitative factors that inform companies’ ranking include research & development spending, best practices in business, stakeholder satisfaction, commitment to social responsibility, and website traffic.
