Another way to establish your and your loved ones’ legacy of involvement at The Wistar Institute is through a naming opportunity. You can make a gift that links your name, or that of a friend or loved one, with Wistar’s inspiring work in basic biomedical research.
Why might a naming opportunity suit you?
- Naming opportunities present a way to become involved in an area of Wistar’s work that is particularly meaningful to you in a long-term manner.
- Many of our donors want to establish something at Wistar with a sense of permanence, that the next generation of their family members can continue supporting and build upon further.
- Some of our donors want to pay tribute to a loved one who trained at Wistar by supporting that opportunity for another individual.
- You may enjoy having an especially tangible sense of the impact of your gift. Naming opportunities – whether in support of our people, our programs or our physical spaces – can give that to you.
- Named gifts can often inspire similar support from other Wistar benefactors. Our donors enjoy knowing when their contributions have had a ripple effect in this way.
Expendable and Endowed Funds
Name a Fund
Named Funds at Wistar provide a vital source of support for particular areas of Wistar’s work that is most meaningful to you, whether disease-specific research, education and training initiatives, technology and facilities, or something else near and dear to your heart.
You can establish a Named Fund to support a specific area of Wistar’s work, identified with your name or that of a loved one, with a minimum commitment of $50,000. These are not endowed funds, and the charitable contributions to these funds will be used to support the intended project or area of research. Our donors create these named funds with the intent that they will continue to contribute to and replenish the fund year after year. With your permission, Wistar can also promote your Named Fund as a way to inspire additional support from other Wistar donors who share an interest in the fund’s area of support, prolonging the life and impact of the Named Fund.
Existing Named Funds at Wistar include:
- The Albert R. Taxin Brain Tumor Research Fund
- The Tobin Family Memorial Fund for Pancreatic Cancer Research

You can establish a Named Endowed Fund to support a specific area of Wistar’s work, identified with your name or that of a loved one, with a minimum commitment of $100,000. Endowed Funds are invested and the principal preserved. A portion of the Endowed Fund’s annual income, generated from the investment’s growth, is used in line with the Endowed Fund’s purpose. The remaining assets are reinvested to ensure growing support for years to come. With your permission, Wistar can promote your Named Endowed Fund as a way to inspire additional support from other Wistar donors who share an interest in the fund’s area of support, prolonging the life and impact of the Named Endowed Fund.
