Why might a gift that pays you income suit you?
  • “Life income” gifts provide donors with a predictable income stream for life or a specified period, which can be particularly appealing for those seeking financial security in retirement.
  • Donors can receive immediate tax deductions for a portion of the gift, and potentially reduce capital gains taxes if the gift is funded with appreciated assets
  • Donors can transfer the responsibility of managing the gifted assets to the nonprofit or a trustee, relieving them of the burden of investment management
  • Life income gifts can be an effective tool in estate planning, helping to reduce the taxable estate and potentially lowering estate taxes.
  • Life income gifts can be tailored to meet the specific financial and philanthropic goals of the donor, offering flexibility in terms of payment schedules and beneficiaries
  • You may want to take advantage of the allowance to make a one-time Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA (up to $54,000 in 2025) to fund a charitable gift annuity (CGA) or charitable remainder trust (CRT).

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

You make a gift to Wistar (minimum $10,000) which is then set aside and invested by Wistar. Based on your age at the time of the gift, Wistar pays you (and someone else, if you choose) a fixed amount each year for the rest of your life. Upon your passing, the remainder of the gift is used to support Wistar’s work.

Charitable Reminder Trust (CRT)

You transfer property, cash or other assets into an irrevocable trust managed by your chosen financial institution that then pays income to 1 or more beneficiaries for a specified term, or life. At the end of the payment term, or following the passing of the last remaining beneficiary, the full or partial remainder of the trust passes to Wistar.

Already included Wistar in your estate plan?

Why let us know?

When you notify us of your Legacy Gift intention using this form, we are able to thank you up front, recognize your incredible provision during your lifetime, and keep you informed on Wistar’s work in a manner that is meaningful to you. It also enables us to document and honor your wishes.

While you can choose to make an irrevocable Legacy Gift to Wistar if you wish, signing this intention form does not make your Legacy Gift provision legally binding. It is a way of sharing your thoughtful intention with us and you can revoke or make changes to your plans at any time.

While we know that considering what people and what causes you wish to provide for after you have passed is a deeply private matter, we hope you will give us the opportunity to pay tribute to you for including Wistar in those plans. We are honored to recognize our Legacy donors in Wistar’s 1892 Society.
