Next year will mark the 125th anniversary of The Wistar Institute. Founded in 1892 and named in honor of prominent Philadelphia physician Caspar Wistar, M.D., The Wistar Institute is the nation’s first independent nonprofit biomedical research institute in the United States. Wistar has held the prestigious Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute since 1972. Wistar science focuses on cancer research and vaccine development for emerging and infectious diseases. Our scientists work to ensure that research advances move from the laboratory to the clinic as quickly as possible. We are proud of our rich history of pushing the boundaries of scientific research and discovery to impact human health. The Institute is marking its momentous milestone by celebrating with a series of programs and special events that will showcase our rich legacy of global impact. We hope you will join us in celebrating Wistar science in the new year.
