2012 Philadelphia Science Carnival
At our booth at the Philadelphia Science Carnival, visitors got the chance to view their body's own cells. Using a cotton-tipped swab, kids rubbed the insides of their cheeks to obtain their epithelial cells. Wistar staff used these swabbings to create slides, which were then placed under our on-site microscope. We projected the cell images onto a computer screen for easy viewing, and we took photos of each guest's cells. (See the cell gallery here.)
The entire Science Carnvial featured more than 100 exhibitors offering family-friendly experiments, interactive activities, games, and the opportunity to meet scientists, engineers and mathematicians all day long. We we thrilled to be participants!
