The Wistar Gala
Presented at the Wistar Gala, the Wistar Award is a biennial award given to an individual who reflects the qualities of compassion, integrity, generosity, commitment, and vision that the Institute’s founding members demonstrated. Beginning in 2013, the Caspar Wistar Medal of Achievement is also presented at the gala. This medal honors and individual or an organization that has had a significant impact on global health.
The 2013 Wistar Gala raised more than $300,000 to benefit the Building Wistar, Changing the World campaign.
Albert R. Taxin Golf & Bridge Classic
This event was established to honor the memory and legacy of Albert R. Taxin, a beloved Philadelphian who died in 1993 of a brain tumor. All proceeds from the Classic support the work in the Albert R. Taxin Brain Tumor Research Center at The Wistar Institute. Learn more.
Running for Cover
Running for Cover benefits the Noreen O’Neill Foundation for Melanoma Research and The Melanoma Research Center at The Wistar Institute. Whether you walk, run, or just want to come out and cheer us on, it’s a fun day for all! Learn more.
Organize a Fundraising Event
Want to make a difference through supporting biomedical research? Create your own event to benefit The Wistar Institute.
Prior to beginning any fundraising efforts on behalf of the Wistar Institute, you first need to complete and submit our Third Party Event Proposal a minimum of six weeks prior to beginning any promotional efforts or planning for your event. Upon receipt of your proposal, a Wistar staff member will contact you within five business days to notify you as to the approval or decline of your proposed event. Contact Elyse Hoffmann for more information and helpful tools in planning your event.
Participate in Events
Do you know which Pulitzer-prize winning author just paid Wistar a visit? Have you ever contemplated the innate beauty of the cell membrane? Fancy a round of golf to support brain cancer research? From the Authors Series to the annual Nikon Small World exhibit, from the Albert R. Taxin Golf & Bridge Classic to the Running for Cover run and walk, The Wistar Institute supports public and special events throughout the year that both entertain and educate.
