Honoring fashion designer

Carmen Marc Valvo

Carmen Marc Valvo

About the honoree

In 1989, Carmen Marc Valvo set out on a path that would lead him to found his label and become one of 7th Avenue’s most steadfast independent brands. Over the years, Carmen’s designs have been worn by some of the world’s most sophisticated, talented, and glamorous women, from HRH Princess Madeleine of Sweden to Queen Latifah, Katie Couric to Katy Perry, and Hollywood royalty to pop princesses. From young to legendary, Carmen’s designs are both timeless and ageless.

In his late forties, and just shy of the recommended age (50) to begin colorectal cancer screening, Carmen began to feel like something was a little off. He listened to his body and insisted on having a colonoscopy, an insistence that saved his life. His doctors found and immediately removed a large tumor inside his colon.

Since then, Carmen has become an Entertainment Industry Foundation Ambassador and has given both his time and money to the organization, which has helped raise millions of dollars for colon cancer research. He appeared with Vanessa Williams in a national broadcast and print public service campaign to encourage early screening for colon cancer. He has appeared on the covers of AARP and Coping with Cancer magazines and has been featured on the NBC Today Show and CBS Early Show, in USA Today and on countless other national and local media outlets to make it fashionable to discuss colorectal cancer.
